Rutaparna clinches All-India Senior double crown

Odisha badminton icon Rutaparna Panda bagged a double, winning the mixed and women’s doubles titles in the All-India Senior Ranking Tournament, held at Kozhikode, Kerala from 17 to 21 April, 2019. Over 800 shuttlers participated in the tournament.

In the women’s doubles final, Rutaparna and K Maneesha of Reserve Bank of India beat Aparna Balan and Prajakta Sawant 21-18, 21-13 in 54 minutes. Earlier in the semifinals,
Rutaparna and Maneesha prevailed over Shikha Gautam (Air India) and K Ashwini Bhat (Karnataka) 21-16, 17-21, 21-19.

Rutaparna, who has been honing her skills at Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad, won the mixed doubles crown with Rohan Kapoor of Air India as her partner. They defeated Sri Krishna Sai Kumar and Kanika Kanwal 21-19, 21-14 in the final that lasted for 44 minutes.

Earlier in the last-four round, Rutapatna and Rohan got the better of Sai Pratheek Krishna Prasad and K Ashwini Bhat (Karnataka) 21-18, 21-12. Rutaparna will play the Yonex-Sunrise All India Senior Ranking Tournament at Bangalore from 23 to 28 April, 2019.
